LAUNCHING IN MARCH 2009!

Design and Culture promises to open up disciplinary boundaries and explore the links between creative practices. Such a venture is important to sustain the critical edge of design, lest it lapse into mere marketing. It should be read with great expectations. Kevin Murray, craft writer, Australia

A truly interdisciplinary and international peer reviewed academic design journal that outrivals the excellent national and regional design journals!
Marjatta Hauska, Librarian and Head of Humanities Section, Stockholm University Library, Sweden

Design is a vibrant field. The so-called 'edges' are increasingly becoming its driving forces. Crossovers between traditional design disciplines and other professions are becoming enriched. Design and Culture will occupy a vital role in tackling these changes head-on by situating design within the full range of cultural contexts. It will also examine design in relation to other academic disciplines, including marketing, management, cultural studies, anthropology, material culture, geography, visual culture and political economy. Peer-reviewed, full-color and handsomely designed throughout.
Design and Culture is the official journal of the Design Studies Forum.

Topics will include the relationships between design and:

- Processes
- Theory and ideology
- Society and new media
- Political economy
-
Value
- Consumption
- 'Peripheral', 'transitional' and 'development' contexts
- Leisure and tourism
- The senses
- Craft & art
- The studio
- The urban environment
- Brands

For so long design has been neglected as an area worthy of serious academic study and cutting edge analysis. At last a journal to fill the void by finally addressing the enormous impact and relevance of design in contemporary culture. Alison Clarke, University of Applied Arts, Vienna, Austria
